www.allenmatkins.com
From January 12 to April 12, 2012, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will be accepting applications for new top level domain names. Instead of the relatively few generic top level domain names currently in existance, including .com, .net and .org, ICANN will be allowing hundreds of new top level domain names that could include anything from .apple to .hotels. If you wish to apply for a top level domain name, be ready to pay. The application fee alone is $185,000 and total costs are estimated to be $500,000. Even if you don't want your own top level domain, you should stay aware of the process in order to protect your trademark rights.
